MONTREAL SHORT STAY APARTMENTS

MONTREAL SHORT STAY

Will you be headed off to Montreal for a holiday that is longer than a week and maybe it can be longer than a month? Or perhaps you are there for work and will be indefinitely? Here is the thing, if you are to stay in Montreal less than a week, staying in a hotel would be your best option but if you are planning to stay on longer, you definitely do not want to stay in a hotel for the entire month or the entire six months you are in Montreal. The best choice you have for such a short stay would be to rent an apartment in Montreal.

In a hotel, you would be cooped up in a room and that is all the space you will be getting. But, if you rent an apartment, you have not only more rooms, you have a proper bedroom, kitchen, living room and roomier bathroom. So, you would not dread having little space because you will be having the entire apartment to yourself.

In addition, it is definitely way cheaper to rent an apartment in comparison to staying in a hotel. For example, from tripadvisor.com, an average hotel room rate in Montreal is $150 a night and it is already a whopping $1500 for 10 nights whereas from apartment.louer.com, an apartment cost on average $695 to $1200 a month! And in one month you have 30 days. You are a smart person, so do the math and figure how much you can save when you rent an apartment.

Besides that, I am very sure that you do not fancy eating expensive hotel food or eat out every day for every meal for the next 30 days while you are staying in Montreal. By renting an apartment, you are able to prepare and cook your own meals with the kitchen that is provided and that is definitely cheaper and healthier as well.

On top of that, there are two types of apartments you can rent. There is the furnished apartment and the unfurnished apartment. For the furnished apartment, it can be quite subjective where certain amenities would be provided but not all such as some apartments would come with luxurious amenities like TV, DVD player, stereo systems and so on while some furnished provides just the basic amenities such as a bed, table, chairs, sofas and dining room utensils. Of course, the furnished apartment would definitely cost more than the unfurnished apartment but you might not necessary like the furniture or the furniture might already have signs of wear and tear that you might not like. On the other hand, if you rent an unfurnished, you have the liberty to furnish the place as you like it and at the end of the day, you can take your furniture with you when you leave.

Types of Montreal Apartments for Rent

Montreal boasts of its international and mixed population of students and people who come for work for a short period. Such people prefer to stay in Montreal for its wonderful combination of good work/academic opportunities and affordable rents. The rents are highly regulated by the government, making Montreal apartments for rent a favourable ground for tenants.

Studio and single bedroom apartments

Those who are single can easily get a studio or 1.5 room apartment for affordable rent (1 huge room consisting of bedroom, kitchenette, living area and a bathroom with washbasin, toilet along with either a tub or a shower). Studio apartments are easy to maintain and apt for someone who is living on a limited salary.

Multiple bedroom apartments

Families with larger number of people who shift into Montreal have great varieties of rentals to choose from. Depending upon the size of the family, the following can be opted for:

Montreal Furnished Apartments

The second largest city of the country, Montreal is primarily a city that caters for the floating population of people who stay there for a short period. It is highly likely that those who need to move houses and cities constantly would prefer to have a furnished or semi-furnished house rather than drag their furniture baggage every time and pay heavily for shipping it.

Though furnished apartments are quoted at a higher rate compared to non-furnished ones, they are definitely worth it. For someone who is going to be in Montreal only for few years (1 or 2 years at the maximum), buying the whole stuff required for converting a house into a home is going to guzzle money like crazy. And if that someone shifts to another house after an year, there is a huge question of whether the same furniture would fit into the new house.

It would be thus logical to go in for an apartment that offers furniture and certain set amenities for its tenants at a reasonable price.

The term ‘furnished’ includes not just cots, sofas and cupboards, but also basic appliances such as heater, air conditioner, kitchen utensils, internet, telephone and amenities such as gym, swimming pool, etc.

Advantages of renting furnished apartments
• Hassle free moving-in with just couple of bags holding personal belongings
• Renting the furniture, appliances and amenities will work out far cheaper than actually having to buy them. Furnished apartments usually quote the rent by including the rental charges for all the above mentioned.
• Do not have to worry about spacing the furniture into the limited space.

LaCite Apartments offer semi-furnished and fully furnished apartments at reasonable rates. They also offer common amenities such as security camera, elevators, gym, parking, swimming pool, kitchen appliances and the rent is all-included. Schwartz’s Deli – Casual Catching up over the warming smoked meat

Saint-Laurent Boulevard is just amazing. It runs through the heart of Montreal and is bustling with life, 24 hours a day. Montrealers love their food and the fact that there are over 6000 restaurant in the city, proves it. My friends and I planned a trip to some of the famous eateries and on the top of the list was Schwartz’s Deli. Located on 3895, Saint-Laurent Boulevard, this deli has been around for 80 years!

When we reached the spot, there was this huge line building up in front on the shop, which is pretty normal for the deli. Upon enquiring, we came to know that in the last 80 yrs, there has been not one day without such a queue! That got us pretty excited and we waited for around an hour to enter the place. Upon casual inspection, Schwartz’s isn’t one of those pretty diners. Read more…

Make your taste buds smile with St. Viateur Bagel

If I ever get a sweet tooth in the middle of the night, I know where I can find that perfect wood fire smoke clad bagel to satisfy my hunger not to far from my Montreal apartment at LaCite. Adorned by this old fashioned dark green canopy, St. Viateur Bagels is one of my favorite stops on my way back home. Though the shop is located in 3 different locations, my pick is the legendary THE St. Viateur Bagel store on the Rue St. Viateur Ouest, which is open 24X7, for crazy customers like me!

“It is just a bagel!” you say. But, no. Montreal bagelis different from the usual American version. It is significantly smaller with larger hole, much denser and sweeter. Most importantly, it is baked in an oven run by fire wood. This gives it a rustic smoky flavor, which is subtle enough not to overpower the other ingredients, yet strong enough to let its presence known. I can bet you can finish eating an entire bag of 12 within no time! Read more…

MY WINTER EXPERIENCE IN MONTREAL

by Olga H.

We arrived at the Montreal apartments LaCite on October 20th, right in the beginning of the winter. My husband landed a  job at the Canadian Space Agency that will possibly keep us in this city for at least one year. For the short period of time that we have been here, we have seen a lot. I can’t wait to explore all the other nice places that I have heard so much about.

Moving to the right apartment

Since we are planning on staying in Montreal for several months, perhaps more than a year (I hope). We decided to rent a furnished apartment first. That way we could buy our own furniture and make our unfurnished apartment our own. We wanted to make this new place “a home away from home”. My husband is very passionate of old furniture and antiques. We took almost four entire weekends to go to traditional furniture stores and to some antique auctions as well. The one that we found to have the most variety and some of the best prices, was Empire Auctions on a street called Paré.

After a month in Montreal, having already bought some furniture, we moved in to our new ” Montreal Apartment “. The staff at LaCite has really helped us with the logistics of getting a temporary furnished apartment, while we acquired our own furniture. The nice thing about LaCite is that they have both furnished and unfurnished apartments available in the same building. For us, it was a blessing that took a lot of the stress out of the moving process. Read more…

Mont Royal - Beaver Lake

Just minutes from LaCite Montreal apartments, Mont Royal is a beautiful national park right in the heart of the island that offers incredible scenery and a very relaxing atmosphere.

The most sophisticated city in Canada has two languages and two live styles. By day, the traditional horse-drawn carriages leisurely stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, and at night, the DJ’s music continues to reverberate in the fashionable clubs of the so called Plateau. It is a city that knows how to have fun and that adapts itself to the different seasons: in summer,  there is a bicycle route network of over 300 kilometers connecting the beautiful national park Mont Royal to the center of the city, and in winter, locals do not hesitate to  put on the skates and get to play hockey outdoors throughout the city.
